SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS: USHER INTO HAPPINESS

-Aaron Philip Jacob

Feliz Navidad!!!

From unwrapping the gifts to decorating the Christmas tree, singing carols to distributing the Christmas cake among friends, we all enjoy and cherish the spirit of Christmas. While we talk about the spirit of Christmas, it took me a while to understand what is this spirit that is present in each one of us; and don’t worry you need not be baptised to understand it.

Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, one of the most influential personalities in history. While his influence in the world was surely great, but what we must take in from here is his teachings and what he was willing to do for humanity. Forgiveness and love were two of his most important teachings, and how these two words are closely linked to one another. When you love someone, you want the best for them even if they fail to understand you or your love, you are persistent about your stance. This would lead you getting hurt by the people you love the most; between a parent and a child, a husband and a wife, a friend or a closed one. So, you might ask why forgive this person, because he/she matters to you the most in your life, irrespective of all the wrongs that has happened to you by him/her, because you chose them for who they are and continue to love them which they need not accept. The same way God waits for each one of us with arms spread, even when we turn away from him.

With the basic analysis above, what I really mean is that the Spirit of Christmas is embracing the relationships you have around you, loving and caring for each one of them. Forgiving those who wronged you, not as an obligation but out of love for that person, for the impact he/she had on your life. People across the world eagerly wait for Christmas because of the impact it has made in each of their lives. An act of forgiveness, a hug to save from despair, a small act of kindness, a hand of friendship, a bond created by sharing and many other acts of love experienced during this festive time, truly celebrates it’s spirit. In the end, some words from Jesus Christ, because c’mon it’s his birthday. I would like to quote a verse from the Holy Bible, in the book of John 3:17, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” This verse had helped me in forgiving people whom I resented and hated, as it makes me think about how I might pass my personal judgements about people, but this omnipotent being who knows everything about the person is trying to save him.

Enjoy yourselves, have fun, make friends, meet people and above all spread the message of love. Hope you guys enjoyed it and once again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.
